Anatomie - Stefan Ruzowitzky

I had seen part of this film a couple of years ago and I was disappointed that I never got to finish it. I picked it up at the time because I had enjoyed Franka Potente's performance in Run Lola Run (if you haven't seen it, please check it out!) and the story was very intriguing. It is a thriller, yet it isn't a bare bones conventional type of suspense, the sombre mood that is established and maintained throughout the film allows for many eerie moments. The story is strong, intelligent, and worth the watch if you like mysteries and don't mind being a little grossed out (yes, there are body parts in the movie!). It is in German, but the DVD comes equipped with both French and English subtitles; if you have never multi-tasked with subtitles, no worries, it comes with practice. Someone had commented on IMDB that there is a dubbed version of the film, please stay away from anything dubbed! Not only does it ruin perfectly watchable movies (Jesus Franco anyone?), it breaks the narrative tension that is so crucial to thrillers and horror films. Dubbing will turn any decent movie, even a masterpiece per say, into a farce, and that is what I call an artistic lobotomy.
