Desperately Seeking Seka - Christian Hallman and Magnus Paulsson

This documentary leaves a lot to be desired (and no, I am not talking about the pornographic content!) The interviews with some of Seka's former co-workers are interesting, yet I walked away from this feeling very disappointed. Unlike Inside Deep Throat, Desperately Seeking Seka is literally a cheap ass documentary on one of the most intriguing, mystical, and beautiful Adult film stars of the 20th Century; the former tended to approach the release of Deep Throat as a historical precedent that changed the way American and the world view pornographic films. The interview with Seka (yes, they finally find her) is fascinating - she is an intelligent, well-spoken, and blatantly honest person and her demeanor implies that she has no regrets about the film industry, yet left it when she wanted to, and I respect her for that. One of the film producers (his name evades me at the moment) made an excellent point about modern pornography, the women and men have to be 100% perfect (this would include the plastic boobs, the tummy tucks, hairless bodies, and the frying pan faces), and he reminisces back to the time where natural looks meant something and men and women fantasized about people, not dolls. On the other hand, women have a lot more control over their careers today, and that is a good thing, look at Jenna Jamieson for example, she controls her career as do many others, yet, in many respects, Seka was the same, she never did anything she did not want to do and I sincerely respect her for that. My biggest peeve about the movie is the consistent use of the same scene (the quick filming of the American flag) to introduce all of Seka's various answers. A disappointing documentary to say the least, buyer beware.
